So it was time to replace my OEM rotors which were on my rain wheel set. They were wavy and caused shuttering at the end of braking. Not something I like to feel when I'm on wets cause they are bumpy enough as it is. I decided to go for Brake Tech AXIS Cobra Stainless rotors. Well initially I went for their Ductile Iron rotors as they supposely superior. But it turns out the Vesrah SRJL-17 brake pads wouldn't be compatible. The best pads I could run would be carbon pads and my issue with this is I would need to switch brake pads when I switch between drys and wets. This is because I don't trust carbon pads in the wet anymore due to a time when they got cooled in a puddle and I didn't have brakes for the next turn. Thankfully Kneedraggers.com had great customer service and helped me with the exchange.
So while I was switching the rotors out I was curious about their weights. Turns out...the EBC Wave rotors I was running on my dry wheels (they are now on my wet wheels) are 2 oz's lighter than the OEM rotors and the Brake Tech rotors (OEM/BrakeTech are 3lbs 6.2 oz). Yup the Brake Tech rotors and the OEM rotors are the same weight. The big difference is that the Brake Tech rotors and the EBC rotors are much thicker than the OEM rotors. This means they can handle more heat.
Now...its time to go racing. First race weekend is this weekend but first a track day with Adrenaline Freaks. Wish me luck!
